May 6, 2026, Lords of Acid didn’t just play Chicago’s Bottom Lounge, they legit took it over, twisted it, and turned it into a full blown industrial dance den drenched in sweat, leather, bass, pasties and pure sexual attitude.

From the moment the lights dropped, the energy in the room shifted. This wasn’t your typical show, it was a full sensory experience. Pulsing beats, heavy electronic grooves, and provocative visuals set the tone early, and the crowd locked in immediately. By the time the first few tracks hit, the floor was already moving like a packed club at peak hour.

I was at last years show when vocalist Carla Harvey was just a few shows into her reign as new "Acid Queen", that show she seemed a bit apprehensive to go all out. Last night, her attitude and domination of the stage took over the evening.

Lords of Acid have always thrived in that space between chaos and control, and live, they lean all the way into it. The sound was massively thick, pounding low end paired with razor sharp synths and gritty textures that hit just as hard as any guitar driven act. Every track felt built to move bodies, and the crowd responded accordingly, dancing, shouting, and feeding off every beat drop.

What makes a Lords of Acid show stand out isn’t just the music, it’s the unapologetic sexual and body positive vibe. There’s a rebellious, anything goes energy that runs through the entire performance. It’s provocative without feeling forced, wild without losing focus. The band knows exactly what they are and leans into it with confidence, turning the night into something that feels more like an experience than a setlist.

The performance itself was tight but never sterile. There’s a rawness to how they deliver their sound live, something that keeps it feeling dangerous in the best way. Tracks flowed seamlessly into one another, creating a continuous wave of energy that rarely let up. Even in moments where things pulled back slightly, it only served to build anticipation before the next surge.

The crowd was just as much a part of the show as the band. A mix of longtime fans and curious newcomers, all pulled into the same orbit, all moving to the same pulse. The room felt like it was vibrating, equal parts dance floor, industrial rave, and underground celebration.

Carla wrangled up all the ladies for "Pussy" as they made their way up onto the stage as they danced, writhed, vibrated and thrashed about as best they could in such tight quarters.

If there was any takeaway from the night, it’s this: Lords of Acid don’t do subtle. They do loud, they do bold, and they do it with a level of commitment that turns a concert into a full on atmosphere.

A high energy, no holds barred performance that proves Lords of Acid still know exactly how to command a room and leave it wrecked in the best possible way.

Thank God NONPOINT always stops in CT cuz I hadn’t seen them live in nine months and we can’t have that! They brought SOiL and Sumo Cyco along to warm us up.

The first time I saw Sumo Cyco they were tucked away in the smaller “Underground” portion of the venue. Seeing them in the main room hit different, their sound and stage presence definitely leveled up. Sumo Cyco is a Canadian female fronted alternative punk metal band led by singer, and bad ass wrapped in sweetness, Fronted by Skye Sweetnam, a badass wrapped in sweetness, the alt punk metal band is made up of guitarist Matt Drake, bassist Oscar Anesetti and drummer Jeff Rinne. The band formed fifteen years ago and have produced four studio albums and multiple singles. Their nine song set pulled from their two latest LPs and included a cover. Y’all know. I’m not a fan of covers in general, they rarely outshine the original. Sumo Cyco tore into it with two from their latest, Neon Void, “ASTEROID” and “SHIVERS” followed by their 2018 single, “Undefeated”, which rolled into Initiation with “Run With The Giants”. The sound quality was great and the energy coming off Matt could not be contained, thought he might have a seizure. It was time for the cover and their choice was Slipknot’s “Duality”. I didn’t hate it and the fans were very receptive to it. Skye asked if they should keep it in the set and I, as well as many others, voted yes. Skye announced “We have a new record out called Neon Void. Here’s a song off that.” They kept it moving with “VILLAINS” before heading back to Initiation with “No Surrender”. Skye utilized every inch of stage space allowed to the opener, in a painted on outfit and I couldn’t help but wonder how she sings and screams like that night after night. In the beginning of “PAIN/LOVE” she sang enticingly “give me pain, give me love, motherfucker” before she gave the finger and got to growling. “Make some fucking noise! How ya feelin tonight?! Make some noise for Soil and Nonpoint!” The crowd delivered. They wrapped with “Bystander” and at one point Skye had everybody crouch low and next thing I knew she was in the middle of the pit low ridin with the rest of em, and then, in the blink of an eye she was back on the stage. So add magician to her list of skills. The band welcomed fans at merch and I was able to chat with Skye. This queen been performing since she was a kid. She opened for Britney Spears on the Onyx Hotel tour. One of her pop rock songs from that time, "Tangled Up In Me” had an edge to it even then. At
one point she stopped the music industry presses and set out on her own trajectory, creating Sumo Cyco. I asked if she had a ritual or some sort of elixir that allowed her to flex her vocal chords night after night. “No secrets, I just do it.” There ya have it, straight from the lips of the fierce frontwoman. Do y’all remember SOiL? The heavy alt metal band that formed in 1997 in Chicago, but hit paydirt with their 2001 major label debut Scars? If your answer is “Fuck yeah!” then you should definitely catch them on this tour because they played nine of its thirteen tracks. SOiL took the stage and delivered a raw rock and roll show that took their fans back in time. They opened their eleven song set with three from Scars, “Breaking Me Down”, “Need To Feel” and “Wide Open”. Even though they have six studio albums, the only other one they pulled from was Redefine with “Pride”. Ryan McCombs is the current and original lead singer and frontman, although he took a seven year hiatus from the group to front the band Drowning Pool. He was backed by guitarist Adam
Zadel, bassist Tim King and drummer T.J. Taylor. They continued to feed us slices of Scars, delivered with Ryan’s husky, gritty vocals, “Understanding Me”, “My Own” and “Unreal” before they punched us with title track “Redefine”. These guys seemed genuinely happy to be there and grateful to the fans. Ryan was sincere when he gave the obligatory shout out to the other bands on the bill. “Lastly, I haven’t been here in a long time, it was like fifteen fukin years ago. They did an amazing job revitalizing this place! Thank you so much for comin out tonight!” They wrapped with, you guessed it, three from Scars, “The One”, “Black 7” and their biggest hit, “Halo”, which put the crowd into a sing along frenzy. Need to time travel back to 2001? Need a dose of pure
unfiltered no frills raw rock and roll? SOiL has the dirt.

I lost count of how many times I’ve seen Nonpoint, but it’s never enough. Hailing from Florida, they formed in 1997 and released their first studio LP, Statement in 2000 that spawned the hit “What A Day”. They have continued to create and release their signature sound over ten studio albums and relentless touring. Their eleventh record, The Last Word, is due out late this summer. On this night the boys wasted no time getting down to business as they detonated their fourteen song set with the title track off their 2021 EP “Ruthless”. An EP the band refers to as “its most irresponsible music ever”. Lead singer and frontman Elias Soriano announced “We got new music comin.” The fans cheered enthusiastically. “Wanna hear some?” Elias teased as they performed their new single “Is It”. Wow, there are a lot of lyrics packed into that song, like a novel’s worth. Imma hafta listen to it more carefully to properly digest it. Psyched to hear it live prior to the album
release though. Nonpoint pulled from across their catalog, hitting us with cuts from eight different releases. “Breaking Skin” (The Return) and “The Truth” (Recoil) kept the momentum rollin. “Are we all warmed up? Bullshit! Are we all warmed up Hartford?!?” The response? Loud enough to prove it. “You guys are loud! Who was here last time?” Lotsa hands shot up. “First timers?” Another fair share of fists in the air. “Are you ready to partake? Can you give me more? C’mon Hartford, show me whatcha got!” They unleashed two high powered cuts from X with “Dodge Your Destiny” and “Chaos And Earthquakes”, which triggered a fully engaged circle pit that kept going for “What A Day” (Statement). “Give it up for Sumo Cyco! We love them, they are good kind hearted people, we’ve toured with em before. I’m showing a little leg.” Elias pointed to his calves, exposed by his long shorts. “Make some fukin noise for our brothers in SOiL!” We got a deeper cut off of X with “Milestone”. Elias took a moment and dedicated the next track to “Eric, a big Nonpoint fan that passed, his dad is here tonight”. It was “My Last Dying Breath” (The Poison Red). A powerful moment indeed. Next was a cover, “In The Air Tonight” originally by Phil Collins. Here’s a fun fact. The original version was played on the first episode of the TV show Miami Vice in 1984. Nonpoint recorded their version in 2004 on Recoil, and it was chosen to appear in the 2006 film Miami Vice. One of my faves from the album Nonpoint was up next, and
Skye from Sumo Cyco joined em, for “That Day”. Skye stayed on board for another new single “Red Yeti”. The set wrapped, too soon with two from “To The Pain”, “Alive And Kicking” and “Bullet With A Name” where they signed off with their signature jump, done in unison. I didn’t realize I could be satisfied yet still wanting more, but that’s how I felt. Nonpoint, the word, can be defined as ‘not confined to a single point or identifiable source’. Nonpoint the band is made up of five talented, hard working, enthusiastic, musicians. Elias Soriano, lead vocalist and frontman. Saw him at the bus, he explained the story behind the Dying Breath dedication .Eric died in an accident, Elias met his dad before the gig, heard his story, found out Eric was a big Nonpoint fan, and that is what led to the heartfelt gesture. Not planned, just real. Asked Elias how he belts out those lyrics
constantly, he tries to rest his voice after shows. (hint hint) Wildman Adam Woloszyn is the bassist and cannot be confined, he bounds all over the stage. Jaysin Zeilstra has been the lead guitarist since 2019. He’s still handsome even though he cut his dreads and I may have texted my photographer a pic and asked “Who dis?” before the event. Rasheed Thomas is the rhythm guitarist and exudes the Nonpoint vibe. Talented, gracious and kind, he saw me outside and remembered that I interviewed him last year. I mentioned I thought the set was heavy and he commented “Glad ya like it”. Robb Rivera is our sideways set up (never change!) Thor of percussion. Caught Robb going upstairs, told him I thought the setlist was heavy, asked him which song was the toughest one for him to play. He replied “None of em” and flashed one of his guns. That thing was the size of a grapefruit. Or small basketball. The guys are just as genuine offstage. I encourage y’all to come out and support all of these bands. Everyone deserves to have fun at a rock show, to let go, to get Outta Control. There’s a few more stops in May and a coupla summer festival dates. Catch the tour and stay tuned for new Nonpoint!

Chicago has seen its share of heavy shows, but this one felt different from the second the lights dropped.

Bloodywood hit Chicago, IL, on their System of a Brown Tour, making this only their second run through the United States. You might have expected to read a review about an international band still easing into things here in the states. Bloodywood did the opposite: they kicked the door open and right off its hinges.

Formed in 2016 by Karan Katiyar and Jayant Bhadula in New Delhi, India, Bloodywood began as a YouTube parody channel. The origin story makes for some fun trivia… right up until they hit the stage and flatten you with it. (In the best way possible, of course!)

Their sound is incredibly unique. It is a blend that most would think wouldn’t work, but it absolutely does. Traditional Indian folk music, rap, and nu-metal. Socially conscious lyrics that rotate between English, Hindi, and Punjabi. The dhol and flute did not sit in the background either; they added more flair to the awesome concert chaos. Nothing felt out of place.

The venue, the House of Blues Chicago, was packed to the point of absurdity, like Lake Shore Drive during Friday rush hour. No space, no breathing room, just bodies locked in and overflowing with concert-fueled energy. From the first note, the floor began to shake and never really stopped. Crowd surfers of all ages came in waves over the barricades. Mosh pits opened in all spaces in the crowd constantly, but they remained friendly. For an all-ages show, it walked that perfect line between madness and control.

What really sets Bloodywood apart, though, is the intent behind their music. Their songs address real-world issues, like social justice concerns, personal struggles, and standing up for women, just to name a few; and those themes don’t get lost live. Between songs, the band intentionally spoke about the importance of resilience and community in a way that actually landed. No clichés, no filler, just raw messages backed by a band that clearly means what they’re saying.

That honesty carried through the entire set. There was no faking on that stage. No forced “metal toughness.” Just energy, purpose, and a group of good-hearted guys that knows exactly who
they are.

By the end of the night, the room felt wrung out in the best way—sweaty, loud, and
completely unified.

Second U.S. tour or not, Bloodywood isn’t acting like the new kid in town.

They showed up and acted like they owned the House of Blues, and honestly, no one was arguing.

I walked into the Epic Event Center in Green Bay on April 29th expecting chaos, and somehow, the night still managed to exceed that expectation. From the moment the doors opened, there was intensity in the air an understanding among the crowd that this wasn’t just another stop on a tour, but something heavier, louder, and more visceral.

Signs of the Swarm set the tone early with a punishing performance. Their set felt like a blunt force attack tight, aggressive, and relentless. The crowd responded instantly, with the pit opening up within seconds. There’s something refreshing about a band that doesn’t waste time trying to win people over they simply take control, and that’s exactly what happened.

Paleface Swiss followed, and if the energy was high before, it escalated into something borderline unhinged. Their performance leaned into a raw, almost hardcore-infused chaos that blurred the line between stage and crowd. There was a physicality to their set that you could feel in your chest, not just hear. At several points, it felt like the entire floor was moving as one colliding, and feeding off the band’s intensity. I’ve been wanting to see these guys perform the last several years and this was their first time in Green Bay and I can safely say they left their mark!

By the time Lorna Shore took the stage, the room was already at a breaking point. And then they pushed it further. Opening with cinematic precision before dropping into sheer brutality, their set was a masterclass in controlled extremity. What stood out most wasn’t just the technicality though it was flawless but the emotional weight behind it. Every breakdown hit harder, every blast beat felt sharper, and the transitions between atmosphere and aggression were seamless. 2nd year in a row working with Will Ramos this dude truly kills it everytime with these vocals

The crowd knew every word, every cue. Hands were in the air one moment and bracing against the push of the pit the next. Despite the chaos, there was a sense of unity an unspoken agreement that everyone was there to experience something intense, but shared.
Walking out of the venue, ears ringing and body exhausted, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had witnessed something more than just a concert. It was a full sensory experience brutal, precise, and unforgettable.

Puscifer staged a full blown, mind bending moody AF spectacle at Landmark Credit Union Live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday night. Equal parts performance art, desert ritual, and sonic hypnosis, the night unfolded like a fever dream you didn’t want to wake up from.
From the moment the lights dropped, the atmosphere shifted. A short animated video came on the screen at the back of the stage telling the crowd that its time do disconnect, put your phones down and be in the moment. Animated Maynard told the masses to repeat after him... "Yes, we understand," three times the crowd responded to the request.

The stage wasn’t just a platform for Maynard James Keenan, it was his world. Stark visuals, cryptic imagery, and that signature Puscifer moody style pulled the crowd into a strange, immersive narrative trance that felt both theatrical and deeply personal. This is where Maynard thrives, not as a traditional frontman, but as a curator of visual and sonic experience.
Vocally, Maynard was in top form, controlled, haunting, and effortlessly weaving between vulnerability and intensity. Carina Round was nothing short of mesmerizing, her presence adding both emotional weight and a sharp, ethereal contrast. Together, they created a push/pull dynamic that elevated every track into something alive and unpredictable.
The setlist moved like a carefully constructed journey. Tracks hit with cinematic precision layered, textured, and pulsing with that unmistakable Puscifer groove. The band locked into a hypnotic rhythm section that felt almost trance inducing, while the electronic elements wrapped everything in a dark, atmospheric haze. Songs didn’t just start and stop, they evolved, expanded, and pulled the audience deeper in.
Visually, the production was next level. Screens flickered with surreal imagery, lighting shifted like a living organism, and every transition felt intentional like chapters in a story being revealed piece by piece. It was weird. It was brilliant. It was completely Maynard and Puscifer.
And then there’s the crowd Milwaukee showed up ready. Fans weren’t just watching; they were part of it. Hanging on every note, and getting lost in the hypnotic flow. There’s a unique bond at a Puscifer show one that feels more like a shared secret than a concert.
By the end of the night, one thing was clear: Puscifer doesn’t follow the rules of live music they rewrite them. This wasn’t about big rock moments or predictable highs. It was about immersion, mood, and connection. A connection everyone felt after they disconnected from their phones and submersed themselves in the performance.

If you haven’t been to The Melody Inn yet in Indianapolis, then you’re sleeping on possibly one of the greatest punk rock dives in town. Located on 38th and Illinois, they just had Three Wheel Horse take over their stage!
They kicked off their set with What Life Does, and Stoned Alone and continued blistering through their hour and fifteen minute set that included other hits such as Dead Weight, Heartfelt and even their newest single released just last year Never Never Never!
Founded by Brothers Jason and Jeff Brown, the band reformed back in 2022 and have been gathering steam as they went! The band is rounded out by Mikey “Stix” Stocksick on drums and James Redlin on bass. They play pretty consistently at either Melody Inn or Black Circle but in July they’ll be bringing the thunder to The Vogue theater opening up for Black Stone Cherry! Some shows hit hard. Others leave a mark. And then there are nights like this where everything collides into something unforgettable. That’s exactly what went down in Manchester Music Hall when Sevendust rolled through Lexington with a stacked lineup featuring Atreyu, Fire From The Gods, and American Adrenaline. This lineup didn't disappoint as Manchester Music Hall was jam packed with rabid fans who were elbow to elbow.

I enjoyed American Adrenaline as the crowd was ready to get rowdy.  AA kicked it off with high-octane riffs and a punchy, no-nonsense delivery that grabbed the masses attention instantly. Their set felt like a mission statement: loud, confident and a perfect start to a great night.

Fire From The Gods brought a different kind of intensity, one rooted in groove, message, and raw emotion. The band’s fusion of metal, rap, and melody hit like a wave, pulling the crowd deeper into the night. My only gripe was the lack of light for us photographers, not sure why bands like to stand in complete darkness for the fans not to take in the performance fully.

Then came Atreyu, and the energy jumped another level. Their set was pure adrenaline, tight, explosive, and packed with moments that had the crowd moving nonstop. Circle pits, hands in the air, bodies surfing, voices screaming back every word... it was chaos, but the kind you never want to end. Atreyu knows exactly how to work a room, and Lexington, KY was all in. Over 25 years on the scene, nine albums under their belt with a new album due out on April 24 called "The End Is Not The End" the guys are at the top of their game.

Speak of a band on top of their game... the headliners Sevendust strolled out on stage at 9:30pm local time.  By the time the guys took the stage, the atmosphere was electric, and they didn’t waste a second of their evening. Opening with crushing precision, they immediately reminded everyone why they’ve remained one of the most respected bands in heavy music since their formation in 1994.

With their 15 album, "One" just days away the mix of old and new songs brought in the various generations at the show. Kicking off with classics "Home" and "Denial" then mixing in "The Real You," "Unbreakable," "Threshold" and the close out being "Face To Face" had the throngs losing their voices.

Lajon Witherspoon’s vocals were nothing short of phenomenal, effortless power, soaring melodies, and that unmistakable soul that cuts through even the heaviest moments. Clint Lowery and John Connolly delivered riff after riff with razor-sharp execution, while the rhythm section locked in like a machine.

What makes Sevendust special isn’t just their sound it’s their connection. Every song felt lived-in, every note carried weight, and every moment was shared with the crowd. From explosive anthems to emotional slow burns, the set was a masterclass in dynamics and longevity.  LJ loves to interact with the crowd and you can see the love given back to him and the band. This wasn’t just another stop on a tour, it felt like a celebration of heavy music in all its forms. Four bands, each bringing something unique, building on each other until Sevendust closed it out in dominant fashion.

Lexington showed up. The bands delivered. And Manchester Music Hall proved once again why it’s one of the best spots in the region to experience live music at full volume. If this tour is coming anywhere near you, don’t think twice. This is what live music is supposed to feel like. Loud, real, and absolutely unforgettable and to see a legacy band at the top of their game you won't leave disappointed.

Hailing from Santa Cruz, California American Adrenaline stormed the stage to kick off the first date of The One tour hosted by Sevendust! Promoting their debut album Burn The Ships they railed in to a 25 minute set making sure the audience knew their asses were getting whooped. People waiting for merch in the lobby lost out in an education on how to open a show!

Following them came Fire From The Gods from Austin, Texas! Opening with Incinerate they launched into Soul Revolution, and The Voiceless to kick off their thirty-minute set. With the audience begging for more, they left the stage.

They weren’t left wanting for long as Brandon Saller crept on stage prowling back and forth. They opened with Dead, and as the crowd started flying in to the air surfing, they rolled right in to Becoming The Bull! The highlight was of course their acoustic cover of Like A Stone by Audioslave! The lights on phones came out, and lit the house up like a Christmas tree.

Finally, the magic hour was here.... Sevendust had a video opening bringing up all the memories of past shows and albums releasing all the skeletons of their musical closet. As Lajon walked on to stage, he quickly greeted the crowd and then growled quickly in to Home. Taking a moment to gather themselves, Lajon pounced back on to stage with Denial before breaking in to Is This The Real You off the upcoming album One! Sevendust spent the next 90 minutes not only celebrating the 29th anniversary of their debut album by rocking tracks Terminator and Black but also gave us a glimpse of their future which hopefully will be writing, recording and touring for the long term! Sevendust has always had an amazing connection with their fans, but this tour and upcoming cycle seems to be their deepest and most personal ONE yet!

Jon Q Public tore into The Cubby Bear with the kind of raw, unfiltered energy that reminds you exactly why punk still hits so hard. From the first chord, the room was alive, fast, loud, and just the right amount of chaotic.

Their set was tight but never over-polished, keeping that gritty edge intact while still showing off solid musicianship. The crowd fed off every shout-along moment, turning the whole place into a bouncing, sweat-soaked mess in the best way possible.

It wasn’t just a performance, it felt like a release. Jon Q Public didn’t just play a show, they took over the room and left it ringing long after the last note.

I began my research of Ex-Faces at the Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan, April 16th and 17th both days sold out, with the intention of observing the stage dynamics of the former Mushroomhead lineup, as this event marked their initial reunion after several years. I was also scheduled to provide photography services for them that weekend. The members in attendance were,
Waylon Reavis (Vocals),
Jason "J Mann" Popson (Vocals),
Dave "Gravy" Felton (Guitar),
Daniel "Lil' Dan" Fox (Drums),
Rick "St1tch" Thomas (Samples/Keyboards),
Joe "Mr. Murdernickel" Kilcoyne (Bass),
Jack "Pig Benis" Kilcoyne (Bass).

I am quite content that I was not tasked with photography responsibilities during those two days, as I found it rather difficult to remain still. The energy displayed by the performers was truly exceptional, and it instilled a renewed sense of youthful vitality within me. I am unable to comment on individual performances, as the collective synergy was outstanding, with each member contributing significantly every night. Their energy levels seemed to intensify with each passing evening.

When we got to the King of Clubs in Columbus, Ohio on April 18th and 19th, which were also both sold out days, I was so nervous because they move around so much and there was always something going on that I wanted to capture. The crowd was heavily involved, singing and jumping. It felt like a family gathering, and everyone was so happy to see these guys back together. The band is scheduled for a 6-week U.S. tour starting July 2, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, and they will also be at Michigan Metal Fest!

Should you choose not to attend, you will forego an exceptional experience, including the opportunity to witness their collective vocal performance of songs such as,
EndingSolitaire/Unraveling, Sun Doesn't Rise, Bwomp, and 12 Hundred! Such a nostalgic show! Honestly one of the best shows I have ever attended!
