Album Review: Villainous Cements Eva Under Fire as a Fearless Force in Modern Hard Rock

It was a long 3-year road to get there, but on July 10 th Detroit rock band Eva Under Fire released
their long-awaited third album Villainous.

The album moves the band into a heavier direction as vocalist and licensed therapist Amanda
Lyberg (Eva Marie) pours her heart out as she brings the audience along on a therapeutic
journey.

Villainous is comprised of thirteen tracks about the loss of humanity and how to combat it.
It’s a story of struggling with the ways other’s see you and how you must face the worst things in
your self to overcome them and prioritize our own well-being.

The album opens with “Awakening,” which immediately grabs your ear with a powerful and
emotional showcase.

As the album moves on, loss of identity, anger and pain are explored with a mix of metal, rock,
punk and industrial alongside some operatic moments and even some electronic pop elements.
At times, Eva Under Fire's music definitely shows sparks of In This Moment vibes and on this
album, In This Moment vocalist Maria Brink joins Lyberg on the title track and new
single “Villainous.”

Together, they push the truth that just because you may be the villain in someone else’s story
doesn’t mean you actually are one as guitarists Rob Lyberg and Chris Slapnik and bassist Ed
Gawlik takes listeners to the edge and back.

The band closes things out with “A Violent End,” with thunderous drum work from Dave Miller
and a eerie ending that will stay with you long after the track fades out.
