Amon Amarth will release its next album this fall. The band announced this week, The Allfather Awakens will be released Oct. 2 via Metal Blade Records. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band unveiled the album’s third single, ‘Gjallarhorn’ Wednesday, along with the song’s video. The band most recently premiered the album’s second single, the acoustic ‘Upphaf.’ Its debut was preceded by that of the album’s lead single, ‘We Rule The Waves‘ last year. According to information in the news release announcing the new album and single/video information, The Allfather Awakens will focus largely on the chief Norse god, Oden. The document states the album is not a concept album but “rather a collection of historically inspired epic tales of conflict and sacrifice for a greater good.” The video for the album’s new single focuses on Oden’s own history. It actually visually points out how Oden became the chief god by gouging out his own eye and throwing it into the Well of Wisdom. In related news, Amon Amarth will launch a tour Oct. 10 in support of the album in Manchester, England at the famed O2 arena. The United Kingdom, European tour is scheduled to run through Nov. 15 in Lisbon, Portugal.
