By: Philip Sayblack Ice Nine Kills has taken on another classic movie with its latest single. The band premiered its new single, ‘The Laugh Track‘ and its companion video Thursday. The song is a tribute to none other than Batman’s most well-known foe, The Joker. In a prepared statement, front man Spencer Charnas talked about taking on the song and paying tribute to none other than Jack Nicholson in the song’s video. “Why be a brooding bat when you can have the last laugh?,” said Charnes. “After all, Jack Nicholson got top billing in Batman ’89. While Michael Keaton’s haunted Bruce Wayne is outstanding, young Spencer was drawn more to the Clown Prince of Crime. ‘The Laugh Track’ is our homage to Tim Burton’s dark and gorgeous gothic Gotham. Batman ’89 took its comic book material seriously, but it was far from grounded, and never forgot to have fun. It’s the same tightrope we walk in Ice Nine Kills, with broad, maniacal smiles.: The song’s musical arrangement is all of the familiar melodic metalcore that audiences have come to know from Ice Nine Kills while still maintaining its own identity separate from all of INK’s music. This in itself is sure to engage and entertain audiences. The song’s video lifts directly from a famous scene in the third act of director Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman. The scene in question features The Joker and his goons going down the streets of Gotham City, giant ballons above them as they ride floats. The whole thing looks like a party but unbeknownst to the people of Gotham City, the giant ballons hold a deadly poison gas. No gas is dispersed in the video, but the presence of The Joker and his henchmen here leads to rioting that includes the use of molotov cocktails. All of this happens as the band performs its new single amid the chaos and the song plays over the visualization. The video’s finale features a surprise guest appearance by star actor Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo 2, Scream). He appears alongside Terry Kiser (Weekend at Bernie’s, Weekend at Bernie’s II, Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood) and Phil Morris (Seinfeld, Smallville, Doom Patrol). Lillard’s appearance in the video’s finale is part of a partnership between himself and Charnas for a new blood-colored bourbon called “Horrorwood Reserve” which will be distributed through Lillard’s own Macabre Spirits. Said Charnas about the new drink, “Horrorwood Reserve is the liquid soundtrack to your favorite slasher flick. “It tastes like suspense, danger, and the satisfaction of surviving until the credits roll.” ‘The Laugh Track’ is the latest single from Ice Nine Kills. The band released its then latest single, ‘The Great Unknown‘ last month.
