By: Philip Sayblack Zombie Shaker Box recently unveiled its latest single The band premiered the single, Pickett’s Charge,’ early last month. According to a news release announcing the song’s debut, the band — guitarist Doug Aldrich (The Dead Daisies, Whitesnake, Dio), drummer Les Warner (The Cult), bassist Dan McNay (Great White) and vocalist Kirk Hulshoff — takes listeners back to the Civil War in its new single. More specifically speaking, the song centers on the infamous Battle of Gettysburg, which was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The Battle of Gettysburg, was one of the bloodiest of the Civil War, with a total of more than 50,000 men dying collectively on both sides. It was also a turning point in the war as a result of Union forces, led by Gen. George Meade, pushing back Confederate forces, led by Robert E. Lee. The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single is an infectious composition that throws back to the hard rock (and even grunge) sounds of the early 1990s. The grunge element comes into play through the vocal harmony layering. It is so reminiscent of the vocal styling of Alice in Chains. The instrumentation meanwhile presents a driving, sharp-edged sound that is sure to engage and entertain audiences.
