Social Distortion will release its new album this spring.
The band announced Wednesday through a news release, it will release its new album, Born to Kill May 8. The record will release through Epitaph Records. It will be the band’s first new studio recording since the release of Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes in 2011. That record was also released through Epitaph Records.
In anticipation of the record’s release, Social Distortion unveiled the record’s title track and its companion video Wednesday. The song’s musical arrangement is a straight forward rock and roll style composition that is instantly infectious. It is an easy fit for any active rock radio programmer’s play list.
No information about the song’s lyrical theme was provided in the news release announcing the details of the new album’s release. The lyrics provided with the song’s video hint at the theme being the familiar topic of celebrating individuality and self-confidence. This as front man Mike Ness sings, “I’m the underdog/Who ends up on top/The rebel poet/With the peacock strut/Gonna make a change/Gonna rearrange”
Speaking of the video, the video is its own familiar presentation style. It features the band performing its new single on a sound stage dressed to resemble a live stage setting. The setting is fitting considering that the band also announced this week, plans to tour in support of its new album late this summer and early this fall.
The North American tour is scheduled to launch Aug. 25 in Phoenix, AZ and to run through Oct. 3 in San Diego, CA. The tour includes stops in cities, such as Raleigh, NC; Detroit, MI and Reno, NV. The Descendants and The Chats will provide support.
Tickets are available here. The tour’s schedule is noted below:
